I am starting this with a little of motivation and assurance that - hey, don’t worry! You’re not the only one who feels like you’re behind everything. It is a useless feeling with the blend some fear and anxiety on the journey to catch up things that we have left behind. And yes, you’re not alone. We have got you!
That feeling of being behind is normal and having a little bit of that feeling is okay but drowning in it is overwhelming. What is actually causing this feeling? I think the reason is any kind of challenges that we face in our life and our human nature of comparing ourselves with others. Stealing a quote from the movie Happy Feet 2, ‘Every obstacle is an opportunity’. Every challenge is a call to do better and an experience to realize what do we run for and sneak peek to the goals that we aspire for. And for the people who still compares yourself with others- guys, you have to learn the fundamental fact that every human being is unique and comparing you with others is pure waste of time. Comparing you- a complicated human being, with another person- different complicated human being, makes things even more complicated. Life is not easy, but comparing ourselves with others is not going to make it any easier.
So, what do we have to do?
I think what we have to do is to cultivate a sense of satisfaction and hope. Satisfy with what you have. We may not have the best but be grateful for what you have at the present moment. Grow in hope.
It says in the Holy Bible,
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11)
I think this is much enough for us to live our life to the fullest.
Personally speaking, no one is inferior and no one is superior. Everyone is equal and we are all part of one ultimate plan. And so, this feeling of being behind is so unreal. This is a very broad topic and there are different perspective for it. All these perspectives concludes with a common ending that no one is ever behind, we all are in a journey of progression and we all will continue to improve sooner or later.
